Welcome back to a new year at Pen y fro Primary School. The year 6 topic this term centres on life in Britain in the 1940s and 1960s. Many of our other curriculum subjects, including literacy and numeracy will link with this topic where appropriate. We are intending to create a display and resource area in Year 6 to support our class topic. We would be most grateful for any clothes, artefacts or other items linked to the 1940s or 1960s that you would be prepared to share or lend to school. Every care will be taken to look after your property.
Our residential visit to Carreg Adventure Centre, Gower will take place from 25th to 29th September. A meeting will be held in school at 3.30pm on Thursday 14th September to discuss the visit in more detail and answer any questions.
Indoor PE lessons will take place on a Tuesday and there will be outdoor PE every Friday. I would like to take this opportunity to remind you that appropriate PE kit needs to be worn for these activities. The days for violin, brass and woodwind lessons will be confirmed shortly.
Homework for Year 6 will be set on a Friday to be returned to school by the following Wednesday. The children will have spellings to learn each week and will be required to write spelling sentences or spelling stories. Spelling tests will be held weekly on a Friday. The children will all be given a homework book and a diary in which they will record their weekly homework; this diary will also be used as a reading record. It is very important that the children read regularly at home to help develop their reading fluency and comprehension.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued help and support.
Mrs A. Baker
