Pen y Fro Primary School

September 5th 2019

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to a new and exciting year at Pen y fro Primary School. The year 6 topic this term is entitled ‘Blast from the Past’ and will centre on specific decades from the twentieth century. The children will be involved in the planning of our topic work and we will use their ideas to form the basis of our studies. The work will link to the six areas of learning: literacy and communication, mathematics and numeracy, science and technology, humanities, expressive arts and health and well-being.

Our residential visit to Carreg Adventure Centre, Gower will take place from September 23rd to 27th. A meeting will be held in school at 3.30pm on Wednesday 10th September to discuss the visit in more detail and answer any questions. There will also be a visit by staff from Gowerton Comprehensive on Monday 16th September to talk to both children and parents about the impending transition to comprehensive school.

For your information, violin lessons will be held on a Thursday and brass and woodwind lessons will continue to take place on a Tuesday. Indoor PE will take place on a Wednesday and there will be outdoor PE on a Friday. I would like to take this opportunity to remind you that appropriate PE kit needs to be worn for these activities.

Homework for Year 6 will be set on a Friday to be returned to school by the following Wednesday. The children will have spellings to learn and will be required to write spelling sentences. Spelling tests will be held weekly on a Friday. The children will all be given a homework book and a diary in which they will record their weekly homework; this diary will also be used as a reading record.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued help and support.

Regards,

Mrs A. Baker
