Pen y fro Primary School
9th September, 2019
Welcome back to the Autumn Term at Pen y fro Primary School.
Just a quick note about the term ahead in Year 4. The Autumn Term is always very busy and exciting; the children have already started to settle into life in year 4 and are working hard on this term’s topics. This term we will be learning about life in Tudor times, exploring and researching many aspects of this period. Our history work will be covered through this topic. Additionally, our music, art, RE and Welsh will also be associated with the central topic wherever possible. In English we will focus on a range of text types, including poetry, story writing, journalistic reports and discussion writing, whilst also continuing with work on spelling and grammar and the Eight Reading Behaviours. We will begin topics about number; shape, space and measure; and handling data in Mathematics and in Science we will explore materials and their properties and forces.
PE will take place every Monday and Tuesday. May I take this opportunity to remind you that appropriate kit must be worn for all PE lessons; it is helpful if children keep their PE kit in a bag in school for the duration of the half term. Kit should consist of a white or pale blue tee-shirt with navy blue or black sports shorts and trainers.
Homework will be issued on a Friday, to be returned to school by the following Wednesday. The children will be issued with their weekly spelling words and have already selected their first reading books. Spelling tests will take place on Fridays. Additionally, children will carry out times table speed tests during the week. The times table they will need to practise for the following week will be recorded alongside their homework, in their homework books every Friday. Finally, children are expected to read as often as possible at home and every day in school. Please comment in their reading record whenever they read to you.
A timetable for items to remember each week is as follows:
|Wednesday||Homework to be handed (or sooner).|
|Friday||Homework to be issued.
I look forward to an exciting term. Many thanks,
Mr. C. Williams
