September 2019

Dear Parents/Carers,

Welcome back to a new school year and a warm welcome to all the children joining us in Nursery for the first time. Much of our work and activities this term will be based on the theme ‘Ourselves’. The children will then begin the ‘Ben and Betty’ phonic immersion scheme after half term. This follows alphabetical order, beginning with ‘a’ the week after half term. Your child will be encouraged to bring something into school that begins with the letter of the week, which will be displayed on the classroom door. I will send a note to remind you about this nearer to the time.

Each week there will be focused tasks, including literacy, numeracy, Welsh, and creative activities, which will be based on our theme, stories or the letter of the week. Children will also be able to choose from many enhanced activities each day as well as all their favourite toys and games. Please could children avoid bringing in their own toys/teddies from home as this can lead to problems if toys are lost, broken or if other children want to play with them.

The children will continue to have a choice of outdoor activities daily so please remember to send your child to school with a coat. Forest school will be held on a Thursday. Please ensure that your child comes to school dressed in warm, waterproof clothing as we always go out. In very cold or wet weather this may be for a shorter session and will be under the shelter. The first Forest School session will be on Thursday 26th September.

This term Nursery children will have hall time on a Friday. This will be used for a range of physical activities including gym, dance and parachute games. Comfortable clothes will be necessary as the children will only be taking off their shoes and socks. Library books will also be changed on a Friday. It is helpful if your child brings a book bag in on this day.

Every session we stop mid-morning for fruit and milk. Please send in two pieces of fruit on a Monday for all the children to share. We would be very grateful if you could cut up any larger fruit you send in e.g. pineapple, melon. We will be cooking when it fits with our topics and would appreciate a £5 contribution towards the cost of ingredients.

Finally if you have any concerns or you would like to know more about the activities, please do not hesitate to come and speak to us at any time.

Many thanks,

Mrs Rees (Class Teacher),

Mrs Coles (Teaching Assistant),

Mrs Davies (Teaching Assistant).
