Pen y fro Primary School,
September 4th, 2017
Welcome back to a new academic year at Pen y Fro Primary School. The autumn term is always a busy and exciting phase of the school year.
Our central topic this term is the Victorians. Many of our other curriculum subjects, including literacy and numeracy, will be linked to this topic where appropriate. Our indoor PE lessons will be held on a Monday and our swimming PE lessons on a Friday. I would like to take this opportunity to remind you that appropriate kit must be worn for all PE activities.
Violin, brass and woodwind lessons will be confirmed shortly.
Homework for year 5 will be issued on a Friday, to be returned to school by the following Wednesday. The children will record their homework in their homework diaries. Please remind children to bring their homework diaries/reading records to school every day. Children will be provided with six weeks of spelling words at a time, with the third and sixth weeks being a review test of ten words selected from the spelling list (words from the previous two weeks). The children will be expected to write spelling sentences as part of their homework every week to ensure that they understand the meanings of the words. Spelling tests will continue to take place on a Friday. We will continue to place an emphasis on reading and request that all children read to you for at least 15 minutes on a minimum of four evenings a week. Please remind your child to record their reading in their homework diaries.
Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to a fun and exciting term.
